The TJM story

The TJM story evolved from our founder, Treva Marshall’s unexpected encounter with travel and hospitality. Once referred to as an “accidental tourist,” she stumbled upon an opportunity in travel and ended up managing marketing communications in one of the most iconic tourist destinations in the world, Walt Disney World Resort. The rest is history… This chance encounter-turned-love affair with the travel/hospitality industry became the impetus for our agency’s evolution in 2001.

Opening the agency just one month before 9/11 was no deterrent. The agency continued to stand on principles of trust, strategy and the genuine relationships we still pride ourselves on today. Our team now consists of travel/hospitality PR professionals, all with direct industry experience prior to joining the agency. We’ve worked on-property at hotels, airlines, cruise lines, theme parks and more. We’re travelers. Together, we’ve visited almost every US state and 42 countries. We are a cohesive team of knowledgeable and passionate agents of our industry who roll up our sleeves and get the job done!

Treva parlayed her marketing and public relations acumen, global travels and food and wine enthusiasm into an award-winning lifestyle public relations firm which has represented domestic and international destinations, hotels, industry associations, restaurants, chefs, celebrity chefs and wine and spirits brands.

Her agency is distinguished by its ability to help clients balance PR, marketing and sales, driving initiatives which impact the bottom line. This commitment has garnered Treva and the team numerous honors from Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) and recognition from PR Daily and the Florida Public Relations Association.

A formidable crisis counselor and spokesperson, Treva has been called upon by major entities to help navigate them through challenging situations. Her communications skills coupled by expert media relations have distinguished her as a trusted source for clients and media.

Her work prior to launching TJM Communications included the Tampa Bay Times (then, St. Petersburg Times) and serving as director of marketing communications for the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort.

Treva holds the honor of being named “Business Owner of the Year” by Orlando Business Journal, as part of their “Women Who Mean Business” awards and she is a recipient of the APEX Award for Positive Influence on Tourism from Black Meetings & Tourism Magazine.

Joel is an accomplished public relations executive who has led successful programs and garnered industry awards for numerous clients. With more than 15 years of PR and media experience, including more than a decade at TJM, Joel works with clients to develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies that align with sales and marketing objectives and achieve unprecedented earned media results.

During his career, he has developed strong media relationships and earned placements for clients in top outlets including: Today Show, Good Morning America, Travel + Leisure, USA Today and more. Joel is continually innovating to adapt to the changing media landscape and has successfully launched broadcast and influencer relations tactics that provide strategic benefit to clients.

Campaigns Joel has led have earned recognition from PR Daily, the Florida Public Relations Association and Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International’s (HSMAI)Adrian Awards, for which he has had the honor as serving as a judge for the past several years.

Prior to joining TJM Communications, Joel worked in the media relations department of Walt Disney World Resort and as a journalist for the Palm Beach Post and Pensacola News Journal.

John is a seasoned marketer with experience developing and implementing strategic programs designed to achieve the marketing and communications goals of a wide variety of clients. With exceptional strength in travel and tourism, he is a four-time Adrian “Best of Show” winner for best travel PR programs worldwide from Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI).

He directed the American leg of Tourism Queensland’s “Best Job in the World” campaign. His award-winning work has included every hotel brand and destinations: South African Tourism, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Setouchi Travel Authority (Japan), the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, the Finger Lakes Tourism Council, Visit Fort Worth, the Connecticut Office of Tourism and Tourism Queensland.

John’s relationship with TJM began during the agency’s infancy and he now leverages his years of experience and client success with valuable strategic insights.
